Paddle through dramatic volcanic sea caves carved into Arica's rugged Pacific coastline, where ancient rock art meets turquoise swells and Humboldt penguins nest on sea-spray ledges. One of Chile's most visually arresting and least-visited coastal experiences — utterly unlike anything else at this port.
What to expect
Launch from a sheltered cove south of Arica and paddle along basalt cliffs sculpted by millions of years of wave action into arches, tunnels and chambers. Glide through the Cuevas de Anzota sea caves, listening to waves echo around ancient walls etched with petroglyphs. Sea lions bask on rocky outcrops and cormorants dive around your kayak as your guide points out endemic coastal flora. The return paddle offers sweeping views of El Morro's silhouette against the Atacama sky.
Good to know
All equipment and safety briefing are included; no prior kayaking experience necessary. Wear quick-dry clothing and apply high-SPF sunscreen — the Atacama sun is intense even near the water. Tour duration is 2.5–3 hours, making it easily combinable with a morning city visit before all-aboard.
