Housed in the beautifully restored Art Deco Maritime Station from which millions of Poles emigrated to America and beyond, this is one of the most emotionally powerful museums in all of Poland. Rated 4.7 on TripAdvisor, it reframes the entire 20th century through the prism of a single extraordinary port.
What to expect
The building itself is a masterpiece of interwar Modernism — all curved white stucco and nautical lines — and the exhibits inside match it: immersive reconstructions of emigrant ship cabins, thousands of personal letters, photographs, and documents, and a deeply moving narrative that connects the Polish diaspora in Chicago, Buenos Aires, and Sydney back to this single quayside in Gdynia. Allow 90 minutes minimum to do it justice.
Good to know
The museum is within easy walking distance (approx. 15 min) of the cruise terminal along the harbour promenade. Combine with the ORP Błyskawica and Dar Pomorza for a full cultural morning without needing a car. Book a private group guide in advance; English-speaking guides are available.
