Paddle a kayak through the flooded rainforest of Gatun Lake — the canal's vast artificial heart — spotting howler monkeys, three-toed sloths, toucans, and caimans in their undisturbed habitat. One of the most biodiverse waterways on earth, seen at your own pace.
What to expect
After a short boat transfer to the lake's quieter channels, you board stable sit-on-top kayaks and paddle beneath a canopy alive with howler monkeys crashing through the trees overhead. Your naturalist guide points out sloths clinging to cecropia branches, iguanas basking on roots, and vivid kingfishers skimming the surface. The sensation of paddling through a flooded forest — treetops rising from dark water — is utterly surreal and deeply memorable. A freshwater swim stop and tropical snacks round out the morning.
