Pull on waders and join a working fisherman on his traditional bragozzo to discover the clam beds, mussel farms, and eel traps of the southern Venetian Lagoon — a rare insider encounter with one of Italy's oldest and most sustainable food cultures.
What to expect
Your guide — a third-generation Chioggia fisherman — meets you at the port and takes you aboard his working bragozzo. Out on the lagoon flats, he demonstrates clam-dredging, lets you handle the equipment, and explains how aquaculture has sustained Chioggia for a millennium. You'll taste freshly harvested local clams and mussels at the quayside on return, paired with a glass of local Veneto white wine. The skipper's storytelling, in Italian with English translation, is vivid, funny, and deeply authentic.
Good to know
Tours are small-group (max 8–10); morning departures typically at 9:00 or 10:00. The quayside tasting at the end is a highlight — arrive hungry. Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes. The tour is entirely within Chioggia's port zone, making it an easy fit around any all-aboard time.
