Big Island Manta Ray Night Snorkel — Kona's Signature Experience

Slip into the warm Pacific after dark and float above illuminated mantas with wingspans up to 14 feet as they barrel-roll through plankton clouds beneath you. This is Kona's single most iconic, irreplaceable bucket-list moment.

What to expect

You'll board at dusk from Honokohau Harbor and motor to the manta cleaning station, arriving as darkness falls. Underwater lights attract plankton, which in turn draw the mantas in spectacular, looping feeding displays just inches beneath you. Guides are in the water throughout, gently repositioning guests and narrating the action. On the boat ride back, hot cocoa and island snacks restore warmth before you dock.

Good to know

Night tours typically depart 6:00–7:00 PM — confirm your ship's all-aboard time is no earlier than 10:00 PM, or book an early departure slot. Reserve weeks in advance; this sells out every night the mantas are running. Wet suits are provided.
