Step inside the beautifully restored 17th-century Portuguese-built Khasab Castle — the Musandam's finest fort — and immerse yourself in the region's seafaring and tribal heritage through its award-winning ethnographic museum. Compact, profound, and utterly authentic.
What to expect
The castle's four distinctive round towers and whitewashed walls rise above Khasab's date-palm-fringed waterfront in one of Arabia's most photogenic settings. Inside, beautifully curated galleries trace the Musandam's role as a crucial maritime crossroads — dhow-building, pearl diving, the frankincense trade, and the unique culture of the Shihuh mountain people. The central courtyard hosts a traditional Omani fishing boat and a falaj (ancient irrigation channel). Rooftop battlements deliver commanding views over the harbour, the fjords, and the jagged Hajar Mountains beyond.
Good to know
The castle is a 10–15 minute taxi ride from the cruise terminal (approx. OMR 2–3 each way). Opening hours are typically 09:00–16:00 Saturday–Thursday; verify before sailing. Modest dress is required (shoulders and knees covered). Combine with a morning dhow cruise for a perfect full port day.
