Immerse yourself in one of Europe's most ambitious marine science centres — Océanopolis — where three spectacular pavilions take you from the tropical coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific to the icy depths of a polar ecosystem, all within Brest's own harbour.
What to expect
Three vast pavilions unfold a journey across the world's oceans: the Temperate Pavilion explores the rich marine biodiversity of Brittany's own waters with floor-to-ceiling tanks of native species; the Tropical Pavilion dazzles with kaleidoscopic coral reef ecosystems and sharks gliding overhead; the Polar Pavilion delivers an encounter with sub-Antarctic penguins and the stark beauty of polar seas. Live demonstrations, immersive multimedia, and behind-the-scenes research encounters make this as intellectually stimulating as it is visually spectacular. Allow at least three hours to do it justice.
Good to know
Océanopolis is a 10-minute taxi or bus ride from the cruise terminal (Port de Commerce). Book timed entry tickets online in advance to avoid queues — popular on cruise days. Open daily from 10:00; check seasonal hours on the official website. Ample time to visit and return for a 17:00 all-aboard.
