Moorea Dolphin & Whale-Watch Cruise with Marine Biologist

Join an expert-led research vessel off Moorea's north coast to encounter wild spinner dolphins and, seasonally, humpback whales in their natural habitat — one of the world's best cetacean-watching experiences in an impossibly beautiful setting.

What to expect

Board a research catamaran in Cook's Bay at dawn as mist still clings to Moorea's volcanic peaks. Within minutes, pods of spinner dolphins typically approach the bow to ride the wake — sometimes 200 strong. Dr Poole narrates behaviour, social dynamics, and his decades of field research in real time. From August to October, southern humpbacks frequently breach within view. No swimming with animals — pure, responsible observation at its most exhilarating.

Good to know

Moorea ships dock at Papetoai or tender to Cook's Bay — confirm your pier. Morning departure (06:30–07:00) is essential for best dolphin activity; confirm all-aboard allows a 10:00 return. Book at least 6 weeks ahead — this is Moorea's most sought-after excursion. Not recommended for those with severe seasickness.
