Saint-Pierre's most celebrated coastal hike traces dramatic clifftop terrain with sweeping views over the open Atlantic and the island's rugged interior — raw, wild, and unforgettable on a clear day.
What to expect
The Le Diamant loop is Saint-Pierre's signature trail — a coastal circuit that unfolds across heath, cliff edge, and boulder-strewn shoreline with the North Atlantic stretching to the horizon in every direction. Your guide points out migratory seabirds, explains the island's unique sub-arctic microclimate, and shares the stories of the wrecks visible on clear days just offshore. The trail is manageable for reasonably fit walkers and takes under two hours, leaving ample time to return to the pier. The light on the Atlantic from the high points is simply spectacular.
Good to know
Wear sturdy walking shoes or light hiking boots; coastal paths can be uneven and wind is frequently strong. The loop takes 1.5–2 hours at a relaxed pace. Departs from near the town centre. Book with Escapade Insulaire in advance, especially in summer. Check weather before departure — clear days are transformative.
