Paddle a sea kayak through the glassy inlets of Scoresby Sound, threading between icebergs older than civilisation. This is polar kayaking at its most elemental — silence, ice, and the world's largest fjord system stretching to the horizon.
What to expect
After a shore-side briefing and fitting of dry suits and spraydeck, you launch into water so clear you can see the keel of the ice extending far below. The guide leads you along the sheltered coastal fringe, where the risk of calving is managed and the photographic opportunities are extraordinary. Harbour seals pop up alongside your bow; Arctic terns dive overhead. Paddling is accessible to moderately fit beginners — the fjord's inner arms are calm in most summer conditions. The final stretch back to shore, with the village's coloured rooftops framed by cliffs, is a visual memory that endures.
Good to know
