Ride to Stórhöfði headland for face-to-face encounters with Atlantic puffins, then summit the still-steaming Eldfell Volcano for panoramic views across the outer islands. A true Heimaey double-bill.
What to expect
Departing from Heimaey harbour, the minibus climbs to Stórhöfði — the windiest point in Iceland and home to one of the world's densest Atlantic puffin colonies. You can crouch within arm's reach of nesting burrows before the tour pivots to Eldfell, the cinder-red volcano born overnight in 1973. At the summit the ground still radiates warmth, and the 360° panorama of the Westman archipelago is genuinely breathtaking. The pace is relaxed and the guide is generous with context and stops.
