Drift silently among cathedral-scale icebergs and approach active glacier fronts by Zodiac in the world's largest fjord system. This is the defining Arctic encounter — raw, humbling, and utterly unrepeatable.
What to expect
Board a purpose-built inflatable Zodiac from the harbour at Ittoqqortoormiit and weave through the inner fjord arms towards the Daugaard-Jensen Glacier and surrounding ice masses. Your polar guide narrates the glaciology and ecology as bergs calve and meltwater rivers streak brilliant blue. The pace is entirely yours — linger beside a grounded iceberg the size of a city block, or push further in to witness the thunderclap of a calving event. Cold-weather gear briefing and dry-suit options are provided before departure.
Good to know
Pre-book well in advance — the 12-guest limit sells out months ahead. Departs Ittoqqortoormiit harbour; allow 4–6 hours. Confirm all-aboard time with your ship and factor in a 30-minute tender ride to/from the pier.
