Track free-roaming musk oxen across the open tundra of East Greenland in a dedicated small-group wildlife safari — the only place in the world you can encounter these prehistoric giants in their natural Arctic habitat.
What to expect
Depart Ittoqqortoormiit in a rugged 4x4 vehicle and transfer to prime musk ox territory on the tundra plains surrounding the settlement. Your naturalist guide scans for herds of these shaggy Ice Age survivors — often found grazing in family groups of 8–20 animals. You'll approach on foot, downwind, to within respectful distance for intimate photography and observation. Arctic foxes, snow buntings, and occasionally polar bears or ringed seals may also feature depending on season. The guide provides expert commentary on the region's extraordinary biodiversity and conservation story.
Good to know
Morning departures offer the best wildlife activity and light. Binoculars and a telephoto lens are strongly recommended. Allow 4–5 hours. Book directly and confirm availability against your ship's all-aboard time.
