Sea Kayaking in Scoresby Sund: Among the Ice at Water Level

Paddle a sea kayak at the very waterline among drifting icebergs and mirror-calm fjord waters — the most visceral, silent, and beautiful way to experience Scoresby Sund's otherworldly scale.

What to expect

Don your dry suit and stable touring kayak and push off from the ship or shore support RIB into the extraordinary stillness of the inner Scoresby Sund. At water level, icebergs that looked merely impressive from a Zodiac become monumental — their submerged blue hulls visible through gin-clear Arctic water. Your guides lead you through labyrinthine ice corridors, pointing out bergy bits and growlers with safety flair. The silence is broken only by the drip of a paddle, the distant crack of calving ice, and the exhalation of a minke whale surfacing nearby. Photographic moments here are genuinely once-in-a-lifetime.

Good to know

Kayaking experience is helpful but not required — a safety and technique briefing is given before launch. Dry suits and all paddling equipment are provided. Conditions are weather-dependent; your guide will assess on the day. Book the kayak add-on well in advance as spaces are extremely limited.
