Travel in private style to Brazil's most celebrated beach, Porto de Galinhas, where at low tide the coral reefs form warm, jewel-coloured natural pools teeming with fish. A bucket-list swim accessible only by traditional jangada raft.
What to expect
The 70-km drive south to Porto de Galinhas takes roughly 90 minutes in a private, air-conditioned SUV, passing sugar-cane fields and mangrove estuaries. On arrival, your guide arranges your jangada — the flat-bottomed wooden raft unique to this coast — and a local fisherman poles you out to the natural pools, knee-deep warm water over coral gardens alive with colourful reef fish. You can snorkel, wade or simply float while the Atlantic horizon glitters. Lunch at a recommended seafood restaurant on the beachfront follows, with time to stroll the village and browse artisan stalls before the return journey.
Good to know
Tide timing is critical — the pools are only accessible at low tide. Book early and share your port's all-aboard time so the operator confirms the ideal departure window. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard, and water shoes. Jangada rides cost approx. BRL 30–50 per person, paid locally to the fishermen's cooperative.
