Enter a vast natural limestone cathedral adorned with ancient stalactites and stalagmites, used by Neanderthals 100,000 years ago and now home to an extraordinary underground auditorium. One of the Mediterranean's most atmospheric natural wonders.
What to expect
You descend into a series of interconnected chambers, their cathedral-high ceilings dripping with hundreds of millennia of limestone formations in amber, cream, and white. The main auditorium — used today for concerts and events — is one of the most acoustically remarkable spaces in Europe. Your guide narrates the cave's astonishing history: Neolithic and Neanderthal occupation, Victorian explorers who believed it connected via submarine tunnel to Africa, and its WWII role as a planned emergency hospital. The sound-and-light show (if scheduled) transforms the space into something otherworldly.
