Walk barefoot on the finest, whitest sand in the Baltic — Dueodde's legendary beach — then climb Denmark's tallest lighthouse for a panorama stretching to Poland. Breathtaking simplicity.
What to expect
Dueodde sits at Bornholm's southernmost tip, where the Baltic's winds have deposited millennia of quartz grains so fine they were historically exported for use in hourglasses. The beach stretches for kilometres, backed by whispering pine forest, with translucent water in shades of Baltic blue. After a barefoot stroll, the red-brick lighthouse rewards the 196-step climb with a 360-degree panorama across the sea. On a clear day Sweden's coast is visible to the north and the German island of Rügen to the south. Simple, glorious, unforgettable.
Good to know
Dueodde is approx. 40 km southeast of Rønne — the furthest point on the island, so factor in transfer time. Arrange a private vehicle with driver to manage timing comfortably. The lighthouse is open seasonally (May–October); confirm opening hours in advance. Bring a towel — the swimming is excellent.
