Step inside Dunvegan Castle — continuously inhabited for 800 years and the ancestral home of Clan MacLeod — and wander its loch-side gardens filled with walled walks, woodland and the legendary Fairy Flag chamber. Scotland's history made viscerally real.
What to expect
The castle's rooms are steeped in clan history — portraits, weaponry, and the fragile 700-year-old Fairy Flag that legend says has saved the clan twice in battle. The walled kitchen garden and woodland walks along Loch Dunvegan are serene and perfectly manicured. A short boat trip brings you eye-level with a basking colony of common seals on the loch's rocky outcrops — utterly magical. The tearoom serves excellent Skye-sourced refreshments.
