Venture to Tawali — one of Coral Triangle's legendary dive addresses — for a guided snorkel over technicolour reefs at Deacon's Reef or Wahoo Point, followed by a visit to the haunting ancestral Skull Cave. An encounter with two worlds in a single excursion.
What to expect
The resort sits 45 minutes by road from Alotau, perched over turquoise water with direct reef access. Day guests snorkel alongside reef sharks, mantis shrimp, and walls of anthias over coral formations in exceptional health. Post-water, your guide leads you along a jungle trail to the Skull Cave, where ancestral skulls rest on natural rock shelves in a setting of quiet reverence. The resort's open-air terrace provides a civilised lunch or cold drink with bay panoramas before return.
Good to know
This is a longer excursion — allow 5–6 hours; verify against all-aboard. Arrange a private vehicle transfer from port (approx. 45 min each way). Contact Tawali Resort directly to pre-book day-guest snorkel packages; equipment hire is available on site. Not suitable for non-swimmers for the reef portion.
