Step inside authentic Fijian village life, share a kava ceremony with elders, and witness a private Meke — the fire-lit dance ritual that has carried Fijian stories across centuries. Deeply moving and wholly exclusive.
What to expect
A village guide meets you at the beach and leads you up through lush gardens to the hilltop settlement, explaining the significance of each space as you enter. The sevusevu (kava welcome) is conducted with full ceremony — you clap, give thanks, and drink from the tanoa bowl. Afterwards, village women perform the Meke, their hands telling ancient stories through precise, graceful movements. Children often join in, and you're warmly invited to try the steps yourself. The walk back offers sweeping views of the turquoise lagoon.
Good to know
Dress modestly — shoulders and knees covered for the village; you can change back to swimwear at the beach. Remove hats upon entering the village. Bring FJD cash as a respectful contribution. The experience runs 60–90 minutes and is easily combined with a beach afternoon before all-aboard.
