Ascend the iconic rounded summit of Månen — 'the Moon' — a glacier-polished rock dome rising above Lyngdal with sweeping 360° views over fjord, archipelago and open sea. One of Sørlandet's most photogenic and rewarding half-day hikes.
What to expect
Your guide collects you at the port and drives to the Månen trailhead, a short distance from town. The ascent winds through fragrant coastal heather and bare granite, rising steadily to the smooth summit dome where the entire Lyngdal coastline unfolds below. Your guide explains the Ice Age geology that shaped this extraordinary landscape and points out the islands of the Vest-Agder archipelago stretching to the horizon. The descent follows a different route through birch woodland, returning you relaxed and exhilarated.
Good to know
Round trip hiking time is approximately 2.5–3 hours — well within a standard port call when combined with private transfers. Wear comfortable trail shoes; the summit rock can be slippery when wet. Bring water and a camera — the views are extraordinary in clear weather and dramatically moody in cloud.
