Walk the sacred ground where New Zealand's founding document was signed in 1840. A guided experience through the carved wharenui, the war canoe house, and the hillside museum reveals the living story of Māori sovereignty and nationhood like nowhere else in the country.
What to expect
Your Māori guide leads you through Te Whare Rūnanga, an intricately carved meeting house representing all tribes of New Zealand, before descending to the world's largest war canoe — a 35-metre kauri waka taua. A cultural performance with waiata (song) and haka caps the structured tour. The museum, opened in 2016, houses original Treaty artefacts and offers an outstanding multi-media journey through the founding of Aotearoa. Allow 2–3 hours to savour every layer.
