Glide beneath Bonifacio's impossibly dramatic limestone cliffs — 70 metres of white rock plunging into the sea — and slip inside sculpted sea caves on a private or small-group boat. The view of the citadel from the water is the one photograph you will never forget.
What to expect
Your skipper steers out of the marina and immediately rounds the headland to reveal the full cliff face — the medieval citadel perched on its knife-edge promontory above. The boat ducks into the Grotte du Sdragonato, where light through a natural skylight casts an electric-blue glow on the cave walls. You'll pass the Grain de Sable sea stack and the Capo Pertusato lighthouse before returning through the narrow harbour entrance. Commentaries are delivered in French and English.
Good to know
Tours run approx. 1.5 hrs; depart from the main marina throughout the day. Sea conditions can affect cave access — morning departures are calmer. Book directly at the port office on arrival or pre-book online. Easily combined with a citadel walk afterwards, well within a typical port call.
