Summit the legendary active volcano that obliterated Saint-Pierre in 1902. Walk through cloud forest, otherworldly lava fields, and emerge above the clouds for jaw-dropping 360° views of Martinique and neighbouring islands.
What to expect
Your certified guide collects you at the Fort-de-France cruise pier and drives north through lush banana plantations and fishing villages to the volcano trailhead. The climb through mossy cloud forest rewards you with sulphurous fumaroles and, on clear days, views stretching to Dominica. Descent is timed so you revisit ruined Saint-Pierre — the 'Caribbean Pompeii' — before the return transfer. Group sizes are deliberately kept small for a fluid, unhurried experience.
Good to know
Allow a full day — minimum 7–8 hours including transfers from Fort-de-France pier. Wear sturdy trail shoes and bring a light rain layer; the summit creates its own weather. Book directly with Beyond the Beach well in advance as small-group slots fill quickly on busy ship days. All-aboard is typically 5–6 pm; confirm your ship's time and ensure the operator knows it at booking.
