Pull giant King Crabs from the frigid Arctic seas aboard a traditional wooden vessel, then feast on them fresh — steamed and cracked tableside with melted butter and crisp Norwegian bread. One of the most visceral and delicious experiences available above the Arctic Circle.
What to expect
Board a traditional Norwegian fishing vessel in Honningsvåg harbour and motor into the Barents Sea shelf where King Crab pots sit on the ocean floor. Haul the pots yourself — these prehistoric-looking creatures can weigh up to 8 kg — before the skipper steams them onboard. Sit down at a simple wooden table on deck surrounded by Arctic fjordscape and eat the sweetest crab of your life with ice-cold Mack beer. The skipper shares stories of the Soviet-era crab that accidentally colonised Norwegian waters.
Good to know
Honningsvåg is the closest port to the North Cape; many itineraries call here. Book directly well in advance — this experience sells out months ahead. Duration approx. 2.5–3 hours; leaves ample time to also visit Nordkapp (North Cape) if your day allows.
