Snowshoe through Arctic birch forest outside Tromsø with a Sami cultural guide, tracking reindeer and learning the ancient joik song tradition around an open fire — a profound, deeply human encounter at the top of the world.
What to expect
A short transfer takes you into the white-forested hills above the Tromsø fjord where your Sami guide outfits you with snowshoes and leads a 4 km loop through pristine Arctic terrain. Learn to read animal tracks — fox, hare, reindeer — and understand how the Sami have navigated this landscape for 10,000 years. The journey ends inside a lavvu where you drink bidos (Sami reindeer broth) and hear traditional joik performed live by the fire. Feed and photograph the semi-wild reindeer herd as the low Arctic sun turns the snow gold.
