Paddle your sea kayak between blue-faced tidewater glaciers and towering seabird colonies in the world's most pristine High Arctic wilderness — Svalbard. The silence broken only by calving ice and the cry of Arctic terns is a sound you carry for life.
What to expect
From Adventfjorden in Longyearbyen, your WAFA-certified guide leads you across glass-calm Arctic water towards the glacier fronts of the inner fjord. Gliding silently, you'll drift past rafts of little auks, bearded seals hauled out on ice floes, and the occasional Arctic fox picking along the moraine. The guide explains the glaciology of each ice face as you float before it — and the thunderclap of calving ice is something no photograph captures. Conclude with warm drinks and local bread at the water's edge as the Arctic light plays across the mountains.
