Cross a tidal granite causeway to a fairy-tale island castle rising from the sea off Marazion — one of England's most iconic and atmospheric historic sites. At high tide, take the ferryman's boat instead.
What to expect
Walk the ancient cobbled causeway across the sands, or step onto the hand-rowed passenger ferry as the tide covers the stones. Climb the winding path to the castle's great hall, where armour, family portraits, and centuries of history line the walls. The sub-tropical gardens cling to the rocky slopes above the sea, with sweeping views across Mount's Bay. The village at the base of the mount has a handful of charming cafés for a Cornish cream tea.
Good to know
St Michael's Mount is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes by taxi or private hire from Falmouth. Check tide times before you go — the causeway is open roughly 3–4 hours either side of low tide. Book castle entry in advance online. Allow 2.5–3 hours on the island.
