Step inside the magnificent fortified walls of the Royal Naval Dockyard and explore the National Museum of Bermuda — the island's finest — with its trove of maritime heritage, rare artefacts, and the haunting Commissioner's House, the oldest cast-iron building in the Western Hemisphere.
What to expect
Your guide unlocks the layered story of Bermuda: from indigenous Arawak peoples and the Sea Venture shipwreck of 1609, through centuries of Royal Navy command and the America's Cup legacy. The Commissioner's House — a vertiginous cast-iron mansion perched atop the ramparts — commands sweeping 360° views of the Great Sound. Artefacts include stunning silver, navigational instruments, and recovered treasure from Bermuda's many shipwrecks. The pace is leisurely, the storytelling world-class.
Good to know
The Museum is a 5-minute walk from the Kings Wharf gangway — ideal if weather turns or time is short. Book private guided tours directly via nmb.bm at least one week in advance. General admission is walk-up; the full experience rewards 2–3 hours. The rooftop terrace of Commissioner's House is the best photo vantage point on the island.
