Journey up the wild, untouched Arapiuns River — less visited than the Tapajós — to meet indigenous riverside communities and swim at white-sand beaches framed by primary forest. An immersive cultural and natural encounter unlike any other in the Amazon.
What to expect
Your boat heads west from Alter do Chão into the Arapiuns, a tributary whose dark waters run through virtually untouched Amazon wilderness. The guide shares the history and cosmology of the Munduruku and other indigenous peoples who have called these riverbanks home for millennia. You visit a community to observe traditional crafts, taste regional foods, and hear stories told by village elders. Between stops, the river offers extraordinary birdwatching — toucans, kingfishers, and macaws are common sightings. A final swim at a pristine sandbar rounds out a profoundly moving day.
Good to know
Full-day tour, approximately 6–8 hours. Community visits are subject to prior arrangement and community consent — your guide handles this. Dress modestly for village visits (covered shoulders and knees appreciated). Pre-booking is essential; private tours for 1–4 people are available at a premium. Bring cash in BRL for any crafts you wish to purchase directly from artisans.
