Capri by Private Speedboat: Blue Grotto & Villa Jovis at Dawn

Race to Capri aboard a sleek private speedboat before the crowds arrive, slip into the electric-blue sea cave of the Grotta Azzurra at golden hour, then ascend to Emperor Tiberius's clifftop Villa Jovis for a panorama that defined the Roman Empire.

What to expect

Your private launch departs early and skims across the Bay of Naples, arriving at Capri's Blue Grotto entrance as the light angle is perfection — the bioluminescent glow inside the cave is genuinely otherworldly. The captain then circumnavigates the island past the Faraglioni sea stacks and sea arches before docking at Marina Grande. A private car or open taxi whisks you to Villa Jovis, Tiberius's wind-swept imperial palace with sheer 300 m cliffs and views across to the Amalfi Coast and Vesuvius. Lunch at a clifftop restaurant before the speedboat returns you to your ship.

Good to know

Blue Grotto entry is weather and tide dependent — the captain will advise on the morning. Book the charter in advance and share your all-aboard time; the captain factors this in. Capri is 1 hr by regular hydrofoil from Naples, but the private speedboat cuts that significantly. June–September is peak season; go early or the grotto queue becomes very long. Bring motion sickness tablets if you are sensitive on open water.
