Brønnøy Bygdetun: Open-Air Heritage Museum & Local Culture

Step inside Brønnøy Bygdetun, a traditional Norwegian open-air folk museum where historic farmsteads, boathouses, and cultural artefacts preserve centuries of Helgeland coastal life. Authentic, intimate, and utterly unhurried.

What to expect

The museum grounds feature a collection of relocated historic buildings spanning several centuries of Norwegian rural and coastal life. Costumed interpreters and craftspeople bring the exhibits to life, demonstrating woodworking, weaving, and traditional boat-building. The grounds are peaceful and beautifully maintained, with views of the surrounding fjord landscape. A small on-site café serves traditional Helgeland refreshments.

Good to know

The museum is within easy reach of the port — a short taxi or a pleasant 15-minute walk through town. Check seasonal opening hours ahead of your port call at visithelgeland.com. Easily combined with a stop at a harbourside restaurant for fresh local seafood before returning to the ship.
