Slip beneath the surface of a natural mangrove-fringed lagoon where sea lions, sea turtles, and marine iguanas co-exist in extraordinary density just steps from Puerto Villamil's dock. The Galapagos' most accessible bucket-list snorkel.
What to expect
A short boardwalk through red mangroves leads to the lagoon's crystal-clear entry point, where playful sea lion pups immediately investigate your fins. The visibility is consistently 15–20 metres, revealing a garden of black volcanic rock colonised by starfish, eels, and darting colourful reef fish. Pacific green sea turtles graze on algae with magnificent indifference to snorkellers circling above them. Marine iguanas occasionally dive from the mangrove roots and swim past in an improbable display of reptilian athleticism. The intimacy of the mangrove lagoon setting makes this feel like your own private aquarium.
Good to know
Concha de Perla is just a 5-minute walk from the Puerto Villamil pier — ideal as an add-on to any other Isabela activity or as a stand-alone for guests with limited mobility. No boat required. Wetsuits recommended (water is ~22°C). The boardwalk entry point is free to access, but a certified guide elevates the experience enormously. Tender from Caleta Tagus ~45 min.
