Walk the shoreline trail to Rábida's hidden saltwater lagoon, home to a resident colony of American flamingos, and observe Galápagos sea lions, brown pelicans, and marine iguanas at extraordinarily close range with a licensed naturalist interpreting every encounter.
What to expect
Animals in the Galápagos have no fear of humans, and on Rábida's lagoon trail this is thrillingly apparent. Flamingos feed within metres, sea lions bark and play at your feet on the red sand, and pelicans crash-dive just offshore. Marine iguanas sun themselves on volcanic rocks as your naturalist explains the evolutionary isolation that makes these encounters possible. The combination of scarlet sand, jade lagoon, and azure sea makes every photograph extraordinary.
Good to know
Maintain the 2-metre wildlife distance required by Galápagos National Park rules — your naturalist will guide you. Morning visits are best for flamingo activity. Bring a zoom lens for photography. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the full lagoon circuit.
