Join a professional wildlife photographer for an intimate small-group session on Las Bachas' lava shoreline, capturing Galápagos marine iguanas and jewel-bright Sally Lightfoot crabs in extraordinary proximity.
What to expect
Las Bachas' black lava shelves are carpeted with some of the densest concentrations of marine iguanas and Sally Lightfoot crabs in the Galápagos — and the animals are so accustomed to calm human presence that you can compose shots from just a few feet away without disturbing them. Your photographer guide coaches you through low-angle techniques, reading the light off the white coral sand, and timing the crabs' explosive scarlet-against-black moments. Between shooting sessions, the guide shares the ecological story behind these extraordinary creatures — the world's only seafaring lizard and the crab that Charles Darwin described as 'impertinently bold'.
Good to know
All camera formats welcome — smartphone to full-frame DSLR. Bring extra memory cards and batteries; no charging facilities on the beach. A polarising filter is invaluable for cutting glare off wet lava. Book well ahead as group size is capped at 6. NPS guidelines prohibit touching or feeding wildlife — your guide is strict on this, as it should be.
