Descend into the cathedral-like underwater corridor of Kicker Rock on a guided scuba dive — one of the top 10 dive sites in the world — where hammerhead sharks and whale sharks patrol the blue.
What to expect
The RIB ride to Kicker Rock sets the scene: the twin volcanic tuff towers emerging from an open Pacific swell are dramatic before you even enter the water. The first dive explores the deep channel between the rocks, where schools of hammerhead sharks cruise at 15–20 m depth and Galápagos sharks hold position in the current. The second dive circles the outer wall, encrusted with black coral and patrolled by eagle rays, king angelfish, and vast shoals of yellowfin tuna. Surface intervals are spent scanning for whale sharks — sightings are not uncommon between June and December. Your PADI-certified guide briefs meticulously on current patterns and marine conservation etiquette.
Good to know
Minimum certification: PADI Open Water (or equivalent); Advanced recommended given currents. Departs 7:30 am, returns ~4:30 pm. Galápagos park pass (USD 100) required if not already paid. Motion-sickness medication strongly advised for the crossing. Book at least 3 weeks in advance — dive groups are strictly small and slots go fast, especially June–November (peak season).
