Walk the impossibly fine white 'flour' beach at Cormorant Point at first light, when Green Sea Turtles haul ashore to nest — one of the most moving, primal wildlife spectacles the Galápagos offers, with a naturalist to guide every breathless moment.
What to expect
The flour beach earns its name: the sand is so finely ground from coral it squeaks underfoot and stays cool in the equatorial sun. Between November and February, Pacific Green Sea Turtles emerge from the surf in the pre-dawn dark and excavate nests in the sand with powerful, sweeping flippers. Your naturalist guides you to within respectful metres using only red-spectrum light — torches that don't disorient hatchlings — and narrates the extraordinary biology and conservation challenges these animals face. The silence of the beach at that hour, broken only by the ocean, is absolute.
Good to know
Nesting season peaks Nov–Feb; flipper tracks visible year-round. Dawn departure required — coordinate with your ship's tender schedule the evening before. No white torches, no flash photography; red-light torch provided. Book the Floreana–Enderby experience via galapagosbluesky.com for the naturalist-led dawn slot.
