Kayak through a pristine mangrove lagoon to one of the most beautiful beaches in the Galápagos, then snorkel alongside marine iguanas and white-tip sharks in the clear waters of Tortuga Bay — all within 30 minutes of Puerto Ayora.
What to expect
A short trail from Puerto Ayora (or golf-cart transfer) leads to the pearl-white sands of Tortuga Bay — a two-kilometre arc backed by untouched dry forest. Launch kayaks into the sheltered mangrove lagoon of Playa Mansa, where hawksbill sea turtles surface calmly beside your hull. Snorkel the outer bay to encounter marine iguanas grazing on seaweed underwater, Pacific green sea turtles, and the occasional Galápagos shark cruising below. Dry off on the immaculate beach with almost no one else in sight.
Good to know
Tortuga Bay is free to enter (ID required at the gate); guide and kayak hire costs above are for private-guided service. Gate opens at 06:00 — early morning is the coolest and least busy. Allow 4 hours. The 2.5km access trail is well-maintained but warm at midday; wear light clothing and reef-safe sunscreen. No water sold on the beach — bring your own.
