Descend through a narrow fissure in the coral plateau to emerge in Togo Chasm — a hidden jungle grotto with towering palms, and then trek to the Talava sea arches, ancient limestone spans carved by millennia of Pacific swell. Primordial and unforgettable.
What to expect
The trail begins on the coral shelf and immediately drops through a vertical crack in the limestone, requiring a short scramble with fixed ropes — thrilling, safe, and utterly unlike any other landscape in the Pacific. Inside the chasm, towering Pandanus palms have colonised an enclosed jungle microclimate, birds call from the canopy above and the air is cool and still. The trek continues along the cliff edge to Talava, where two vast limestone arches frame the open ocean in a composition that stops every photographer in their tracks. Allow three hours for the full experience.
Good to know
Solid enclosed shoes required — no sandals or flip-flops. The descent into the chasm involves some agility; not suitable for those with mobility limitations. Go early to avoid midday heat and to have the arches to yourselves. Carry 1.5L water per person.
