Overnight Ice Camping Under the Antarctic Stars

Spend a night sleeping on the Antarctic continent itself — bivouacking on the snow with nothing between you and the polar sky. It is the rawest, most intimate encounter with the seventh continent possible.

What to expect

After a late Zodiac transfer ashore, your expedition team selects a sheltered snow basin away from wildlife colonies. You dig your own sleeping hollow, receive a full polar bivouac kit, and settle in as the sun dips to the horizon in a blaze of gold and rose (it never fully sets in austral summer). The silence is total. Dawn brings a private sunrise over the ice sheet and a warm breakfast back aboard. Most guests describe it as a life-defining night.

Good to know

Spaces are strictly limited — typically 12–18 guests per night. Pre-book this add-on before departure as it sells out months in advance. Temperatures can reach -10°C or below; full cold-weather layering is essential and a kit list is provided. Not suitable for guests with severe mobility limitations. Confirm your booking directly with Aurora Expeditions at time of expedition reservation.
