Plunge into the near-freezing waters of the Southern Ocean and earn your place in the legendary Polar Plunge Club — one of Antarctica's most exhilarating rites of passage. Shared with a handful of fellow adventurers, it is an elemental, unforgettable minute.
What to expect
Dressed in nothing but a swimsuit (and bravado), you step off the Zodiac platform and drop into water that hovers between -1°C and +2°C. The cold is instant, total, and magnificent. Safety lines and guides are in the water alongside you; the entire dip lasts 30–60 seconds. Warm towels, hot drinks, and the roar of your fellow travellers greet you back aboard. A personalised Polar Plunge certificate is presented at the evening recap. The adrenaline lasts for hours; the story, for life.
Good to know
Participation is entirely voluntary and a doctor's sign-off is recommended for guests with cardiovascular conditions. The plunge is typically scheduled mid-expedition when the ship is anchored in a sheltered bay. Warm layers and a dry change of clothes should be ready immediately post-dip. Antarctica21 fly-cruise departures operate from Punta Arenas, Chile, reducing total travel time significantly — ideal for time-conscious luxury travellers.
