One of the finest cool-climate botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere — 53 acres of rhododendrons, azaleas, and Himalayan species tumbling down a valley 20 minutes from the pier. At peak bloom it is simply staggering.
What to expect
You descend winding paths through towering rhododendron groves, their canopy filtering Tasmanian light into something almost mythological at peak season (October–November). Rare Himalayan species, a tranquil central lake, Japanese maples, and magnolias create a progression of garden rooms. The pace is entirely contemplative — there is no crowd, no queue, and no noise beyond birdsong. Even outside peak bloom, the garden's architecture and specimen trees reward every visit.
