Venture into the Pelagos Sanctuary — a protected international marine park shared by Italy, France, and Monaco — in search of fin whales, sperm whales, and dolphins in one of the Mediterranean's richest cetacean habitats.
What to expect
Departing from Genoa or the Ligurian Riviera, the vessel crosses into the deep blue waters of the Pelagos Sanctuary within 90 minutes. Marine biologist guides scan with professional optics, explaining cetacean behaviour as fin whales — up to 20 metres long — surface alongside the boat. Common and striped dolphins frequently bow-ride; sperm whale sightings are not uncommon. The open Ligurian Sea on a clear day, with the Alps visible above the Italian coast, frames a truly epic scene.
Good to know
Best combined with a transfer from Santa Margherita to Genoa (approx. 45 min by train). Full-day excursion: allow 6–7 hours including travel; confirm a late all-aboard. Trips run April–October; book early as marine biologist-led departures sell out. Sea conditions can be lively — not recommended for guests prone to seasickness.
