Follow Santander's grandest coastal promenade from the peninsula to the twin crescents of El Sardinero — the Belle Époque resort beach that once rivalled Biarritz — finishing in the clifftop Jardines de Piquío for panoramic Atlantic views. Best experienced with a private local guide who tells the glamorous story behind the architecture.
What to expect
Your guide leads you along the Paseo de Pereda waterfront, past the flower-filled Jardines de Pereda and up through the elegant Ensanche to El Sardinero's twin beaches — wide, golden and backed by century-old villas. The route continues to Jardines de Piquío, a sculpted clifftop garden where the Cantabrian Sea stretches unbroken to the horizon. A pause for Santander's famous ice cream — a local obsession since the 19th century — is non-negotiable. The walk returns via the casino promenade as the city comes to life for lunch.
