Pedal Gisborne's sun-drenched riverside trails with a local expert, then step inside Tairāwhiti Museum — one of New Zealand's finest regional museums — for Māori taonga and colonial maritime history. Effortless, immersive, and deeply local.
What to expect
Your guide leads a small group on e-bikes along the Taruheru and Turanganui river boardwalks, past the iconic Young Nick's Head viewpoint, and along the Midway Beach esplanade with the Pacific glittering to your left. Mid-ride you dismount at Tairāwhiti Museum — part art gallery, part taonga repository — to explore the beautifully curated Māori collection, the beached 19th-century steamship hull in the grounds, and changing contemporary exhibitions. The ride concludes with a flat white at one of Gisborne's celebrated independent cafés before the short return to port.
Good to know
The museum is a short, flat walk or ride from the port — easy independently too. E-bikes handle all fitness levels. Allow 2.5–3 hours total. Museum opens 10 am; confirm seasonal hours. Book the guided bike component directly with Experience Gisborne.
