Ireland's most south-westerly point — a vertiginous signal station perched above crashing Atlantic swells, connected to the mainland by a dramatic arched bridge over a 45-metre chasm. Wind-lashed cliffs, sea caves, and the raw edge of Europe make this a genuinely spine-tingling experience.
What to expect
Cross the iconic suspension bridge — rebuilt in 1909 — over the chasm to reach the old fog signal station, restored as an award-winning visitor experience. Walk the cliff paths past blowholes and sea arches; on a clear day visibility stretches to the Fastnet Rock lighthouse. The onsite café serves excellent chowder. The drive through the Mizen Peninsula is itself one of Ireland's great scenic roads, threading between mountain and sea.
