Plunge into Gran Canaria's iconic golden dune sea by private 4×4, venturing deep into the protected biosphere where the Sahara meets the Atlantic. Spot rare birds, climb crescent dunes to the horizon, and descend to a hidden lagoon — all at your own pace.
What to expect
A private 4×4 collects you at the port and heads directly into the Maspalomas Dunas Nature Reserve, a UNESCO-listed biosphere of wind-sculpted sand that feels genuinely remote. Your guide navigates tracks closed to public traffic, pausing at panoramic crests and the freshwater lagoon where migratory birds gather. The scale of the dunes — some over 10 metres high — is humbling, and the light at the edge of the reserve is extraordinary for photography. The return route threads through the old lighthouse quarter for a final coastal panorama.
Good to know
Las Palmas port to Maspalomas is roughly 55 km (45 min each way) — plan for a full half-day. Confirm pick-up time to allow comfortable return before all-aboard. Wear closed shoes; sand temperature can be very high. Book in advance as private vehicles are limited on port days.
