A full-day 4WD journey up the Dampier Peninsula to Cape Leveque — where rust-red pindan cliffs plunge into water so turquoise it looks digitally enhanced. This remote, sacred landscape at the very tip of the peninsula is Broome's greatest full-day escape.
What to expect
Departing port early, your guide navigates the corrugated red-dirt Broome-Cape Leveque Road through monsoon vine thickets and paperbark flats. Stops at Lombadina or Kooljaman reveal Indigenous community art, handcrafted jewellery, and seafood smoked over mangrove wood. At Cape Leveque itself the view is staggering: a narrow headland with the Timor Sea on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other, fringed by sand the colour of icing sugar. A beach picnic lunch is included before the return journey south. Guides tailor stops to wildlife sightings — sea eagles, monitor lizards, and dugong are all possible.
Good to know
This is a full-day commitment — depart by 7:30am and return by 4:30–5:00pm. Confirm your ship's all-aboard time is 5:30pm or later. Wear light, breathable clothing; the Kimberley heat is intense. Bring a hat, reef-safe sunscreen, and water shoes for beach wading. Book well ahead as departures are limited.
