Slip beneath the surface of Pentecost's gin-clear Coral Sea waters and discover thriving hard and soft coral gardens teeming with reef fish — one of the least-dived reefs in all of Vanuatu, breathtaking in its absolute wildness.
What to expect
A short traditional outrigger or small motorised tender carries your intimate group to a reef site selected by your guide based on tide and visibility that day. You enter glassy, warm water to find staghorn coral forests, brain corals, and an extraordinary density of reef fish — parrotfish, angelfish, and lionfish among them. Your guide free-dives alongside to point out hidden moray eels and sleeping reef sharks in the coral crevices. Back aboard, fresh coconuts are cracked open as you drift back to shore under a blazing Pacific sun.
Good to know
All snorkel equipment is provided; bring reef-safe sunscreen only (chemical sunscreens are banned to protect the coral). Snorkel experience of any level is welcome — the reef begins in very shallow water. Allow 2–3 hours. Book ahead by contacting the operator or your ship's local agent — independent in-water guides at Pentecost are limited.
