Plunge into the crystalline lagoons of Rowley Shoals — one of the world's last untouched coral reef systems — with a marine biologist guide in a group of no more than eight. Turtles, sharks, and technicolour reef fish make this a diver's paradise utterly removed from overtouristed reefs.
What to expect
Your tender delivers you to the outer atoll wall where visibility regularly exceeds 40 metres. The guide briefs the group on reef etiquette and priority sightings before entry. Below the surface, staghorn and plate corals sprawl in every direction; hawksbill turtles glide past at arm's length and reef sharks patrol the deeper blue. The guide surfaces periodically to point out rare nudibranchs and schooling bumphead parrotfish. A debrief on the tender includes species identification cards to take home.
Good to know
Rowley Shoals is only accessible during the April–October dry season when the Kimberley fleet is operating. Current dive certification required for scuba option; snorkel is open to all strong swimmers. Bring reef-safe sunscreen — chemical sunscreens are prohibited at the atoll.
